In today's dynamic world, taking responsibility for your career is essential. A valuable resource that can support you in this are career checks. Employees can enjoy 7 hours of career coaching with these every 6 years.
Career coaching: When do I need this?
Do you find yourself in any of these scenarios?
- You are struggling with the question of what work really suits you.
- You feel that your qualities are not being fully utilised yet and you want to make a change.
- The pressure at work seems to be becoming unbearable, and you're considering taking a different path.
- You are looking for ways to experience more satisfaction and enjoyment in your current job.
- Work-life balance seems to be an ongoing struggle.
- You feel that you can't show what you're really good at in your current job.
In these situations, career coaching can help you. It offers a structured and professional approach to discovering what makes you happy at work and what energises you.
The Career Guidance Process
During career coaching, you will be supported by an experienced career coach who will guide you through conversations and exercises. These sessions are tailored to your needs and goals. Together, you will explore where you are currently, what your challenges are, and what your ambitions are for the future.
During the sessions, you will be given exercises and assignments to take home, which will help you to think more deeply about your career and what is important to you. At your next appointment, you will discuss the results and gain new insights and ideas.
The aim of this process is to create your Personal Development Plan (POP). In this, you will record your insights and set out concrete actions to achieve your goals. This plan will serve as your compass for a successful and fulfilling career.
Following career coaching, there is also the option of aftercare, where you receive extra support to further realise your POP and continue on your career path.
Career Vouchers: Who is entitled to these?
To be eligible for career cheques, you must meet the following criteria:
- Your total work experience amounts to 84 months, regardless of duration or sector (part-time or full-time, as a teacher, facilitator, coordinator, self-employed, interim, etc.).
- You live in Flanders, the Brussels-Capital Region OR an EEA member state.
- It's been at least 6 years since your last career guidance.
- You are currently contracted or working as a freelancer.
- You are Dutch-speaking, as career guidance is provided in Dutch.
Career Vouchers: How to apply?
Applying for career vouchers is straightforward and can be done in several steps:
- Order a career cheque via the VDAB for four hours of guidance. You can wait to order until you have found a suitable career centre, or you can order a career voucher in advance.
- Begin with your career coaching within three months of ordering, as the cheque is only valid for three months (the expiry date is printed on the cheque).
- Hand over your career cheque to your career coach during the first consultation. At this point, you will also sign a collaboration agreement, confirming your choice of career centre.
- Following the completion of the first four hours of career guidance, you can order a second career cheque for an additional three hours.
- Please note: you still need to meet the conditions to be eligible for career checks.
- You can follow the additional three hours of guidance at the same career centre, but you also have the option to go to a different centre.
Career cheques: What is the cost?
The costs for career coaching are covered by two career cheques: one for four hours of coaching and the second for three hours. A career cheque costs 45 euros each, which is considerably more affordable than the real value of 182 euros per hour.
