Prof Dr Christiaan Vrints has been recognised as a cardiologist since 1981. At the University of Antwerp, he was a professor from 1992 to 2009 and a full professor of medicine and cardiology from 2010 to 2016; since 2016 he has held the title of professor emeritus.
Prof. Dr Christiaan Vrints was Head of the Cardiology Department at Antwerp University Hospital (UZA) from 1998 to 2016. In addition, from 2012 to 2015, he was Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at the University of Antwerp. Internationally, he served as Chair of the ESC Working Group on Acute Cardiac Care from 2010 to 2012, and as President of the Acute Cardiovascular Association (ACVC) of the European Society of Cardiology from 2012 to 2014. From 2012 to 2020, he was Editor-in-Chief of the European Heart Journal: Acute Cardiovascular Care. He has been a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC) since 2006, and of the American College of Cardiology since 2005. His research focuses on ischaemic heart disease, coronary blood flow, endothelial function and heart failure, and has resulted in an extensive list of scientific publications.
Prof. Dr Christiaan Vrints is a cardiologist with an impressive track record in cardiology, acute cardiac care and preventive medicine. From 1998 to 2016, he was Head of the Cardiology Department at Antwerp University Hospital and is Professor Emeritus of Cardiology at the University of Antwerp.
